Sant Jeroni de la Murtra is a 15 th c monastery situated in the hills above Barcelona and approximately 20 min to the Barcelona subway. La Murtra is run as a monastic “bed and breakfast” and emphasis at this historic site is on Art, Silence and Solitude. Accommodation is dorm-like and austere as you will be staying in a former monks cell (updated to include a private bathroom). Meals are of the rustic Spanish countryside and prepared by the monastery and served in our communal kitchen.

The monastery has workshops where we will execute our paintings as well as a gallery and foundation devoted to Catalonia and The Americas (Christopher Columbus met with the Catholic Kings here in 1493). Sunday Service is held in the former monks’ dining hall and is open to everyone as well as many other activities held at the monastery (such as choral music recitals). The areas around the monastery can be hiked and there is time and space for solitude and reflection.

Figurative painting (including ornament and gilding) will be taught and students take home a 53” x 41” painting of their own. Class times are flexible with excursions into Barcelona.

Price includes class, accommodation, three meals a day (at the monastery) and excursion into Barcelona.

Price does not include airfare, transportation to and from the airport, wine or ticket prices for activities or meals taken outside of the monastery class excursion.
